On this page
A SCUM server is configured in two places. A handful of settings are on the panel's Startup page, and the rest are in SCUM's own files in SCUM/Saved/Config/WindowsServer, which you edit in the file manager.
Set on the panel#
| Startup setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Server Name | The name in the server browser |
| Description | The description shown with it |
| Playstyle | PVP or PVE, the label players filter by. It does not change damage |
| Max Players | How many can be online at once, 1 to 64 |
| Password | What players must enter to join. Empty means no password |
These are written into ServerSettings.ini every time the server starts, so the panel always wins. Editing those lines in the file does nothing lasting.
The ports are assigned with the server and shown on the panel. Players connect to the address the panel shows.
ServerSettings.ini#
SCUM writes the full file, with every setting at its default, the first time your server starts. Its settings are grouped into [General], [World], [Respawn], [Vehicles], [Damage] and [Features], and every key starts with scum., for example:
[General]
scum.WelcomeMessage=Welcome to our SCUM Server
scum.MessageOfTheDay=This is the Message of the Day.
scum.AllowFirstPerson=True
scum.AllowThirdPerson=True
To change one safely:
- Stop the server from the panel.
- Edit
ServerSettings.iniin the file manager and save. - Start the server.
Stopping first matters. SCUM reads the file when it starts and writes it straight back with the values it loaded, so a change made while the server runs is overwritten at the next restart.
Booleans are written True and False. SCUM adds and removes settings between updates, so a key you remember from an older guide may no longer exist.
Economy, raids and loot#
| File or folder | What it holds |
|---|---|
EconomyOverride.json | Prices at the safe zone traders. The file starts with examples to copy |
RaidTimes.json | When bases can be raided |
Notifications.json | Messages broadcast to players. SCUM picks up a change without a restart |
Loot/ | Loot spawning overrides |
Gamepires documents the economy and raid formats in its SCUM news posts, and the loot overrides in its loot modification guide, linked from the official server setup document.
The world#
The world itself is SCUM/Saved/SaveFiles/SCUM.db. Stopping the server from the panel saves it first. It is in your backups and you can download it. To start a fresh world, stop the server, take a backup, delete SCUM.db, and start again.
