Joining an Assetto Corsa server on our network takes two installs on your own PC, Content Manager and Custom Shaders Patch, and then one of three ways in: the server list, the server's address, or its invite link.
This guide is for players. Server owners can send it to their drivers as it is.
Why you need Content Manager and CSP#
Our servers run AssettoServer, the community server most public Assetto Corsa servers run on. It relies on features of Custom Shaders Patch (CSP), such as its weather, and a game without them is turned away with Missing CSP features. Please update CSP and/or Content Manager.
Content Manager is the launcher that most players already use in place of the game's own. It is how you find the server, join it, and pass your Steam session to it.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| The game | Assetto Corsa on PC, through Steam. |
| Launcher | Content Manager, set up for your Assetto Corsa install. |
| Custom Shaders Patch | Installed and kept up to date. Content Manager can install and update it. |
| Content | The same cars and track the server runs, mods included. |
| Server details | For an unlisted server, its address and HTTP port, or its invite link. |
Step 1: Install Content Manager and CSP#
- Download Content Manager and point it at your Assetto Corsa folder when it asks.
- Install Custom Shaders Patch, which Content Manager can do from its settings.
- Start a single-player session once to check that the game launches from Content Manager.
Step 2: Install the server's cars and track#
The server sends you no content. Before you join, install every car you want to drive and the server's track, including any mods, at the same version as the server's.
Ask the server owner which mods the server runs, and where they got them. A car whose data differs from the server's copy gets you kicked as you join (see If you cannot join).
Step 3: Find the server#
From the server list#
If the owner has the server listed in the public lobby, open Content Manager's Online tab and search for its name.
By address and HTTP port#
An unlisted server, or one you want to save, can be added in the Online tab by its address and its HTTP port, not the game port:
203.0.113.10:8081
Use the address and HTTP port your server owner gives you. On a server hosted with us, the owner finds the HTTP port in the panel's Startup settings.
By invite link#
When the server starts, it prints an invite link in its console:
https://acstuff.club/s/q:race/online/join?ip=203.0.113.10&httpPort=8081
Opening it hands the server to Content Manager, which shows it ready to join. Server owners: this is the easiest thing to post in your Discord.
Step 4: Join#
Pick a car the server has a free slot for, enter the server's password if it has one, and join. If Steam authentication is on, keep Steam running and signed in: the server checks your Steam session as you connect.
If you cannot join#
| What you see | Most likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Missing CSP features. Please update CSP and/or Content Manager. | CSP is missing or out of date | Install or update Custom Shaders Patch and Content Manager, then try again. |
| Steam authentication failed. | Steam is not running, or you did not join through Content Manager | Start Steam, sign in, and join from Content Manager. |
| Wrong password | The join password does not match | Check it with the server owner. Passwords are case-sensitive. |
| No slots available | Every slot for the car you picked is taken | Pick another car, or wait for a slot. |
| Session closed | The session is not taking new drivers | Wait for the next session. |
| Kicked for failing the checksum check | Your copy of the car differs from the server's | Install the version of the car the server runs. A modified or out-of-date car fails. |
| Blacklisted | You are banned from the server | Contact the server owner. |
| Missing car or track, or the game crashes while loading | Content not installed, or a different version | Install the server's cars and track at the versions it runs. |
If none of that resolves it, send the server owner the exact message you saw and the time you tried to join.
